Today I'm trying one more little Jonatha Theme in a section of the play. Ben Butler, Marika Hughes and I have created a little cello part, guitar bed....we're rehearsing for the big debut of "4 Noses" on Saturday. Tickets: HERE
Oh My!
These last few days are building with a combination of huge excitement and not little bit of terror. I never dreamed I would be telling this story! I tend to soften the details in my journal. I try to avoid saying too much. Keep it short, funny, poignant.
Well, actually, no one would believe the rest of the truth! The comedy, the tragedy, unless they see it....
I did a radio interview at WKZE Tuesday up in Red Hook, New York. And sure enough, it hit me. It always does. I always realize after the record's out, the play is in production, the interview is done.... I am baring more than I imagined I would. But what else can I do?
Long ago my brothers tried to talk me out of the first line of "The Angel In the House" - it goes "My mother moved the furniture when she no longer moved the man. We thought nothing of it at the time."
The song stalled for a year as I tried to write around the original rush of emotion that brought those words. Then, finally, the song insisted.
This story ("4 Noses") has been pulling on my sleeves for so very long. Inklings of it in songs along the way. (Anyone who's seen me live probably remembers me thanking my mom on stage for all the good material...)
Honestly, I can't not tell it.
So I hope you're all able to come.
