Happy New Year!
Ok, so I've been missing in action, but I have been busy.
I'm engrossed in a new project that I'll update you on as I go.
The gist is, I got invited into the Woody Guthrie Archives to 'co-write' a couple of songs with Himself for a Benefit concert in Philly! There are almost 2000 unpublished, unrecorded lyrics there, not to mention notebooks full of gorgeous prose and artwork and musings and letters. It is treasure. Of course I knew Woody from "This Land is Your Land" and "This Train is Bound For Glory" and the Dust Bowl songs. But I had no idea who this guy really was, until I dove in headfirst.
That's when I fell in love. That's when I knew I needed to delve in deeper.
Nora Guthrie, Woody's daughter and the gatekeeper of the archives, has lovingly been finding new ways of letting the world know about this unbelievable man and his body of work, and she's been incredibly gracious and generous with letting me in, and helping me move toward a full record of Woody/Jonatha songs. I'm starting recording in February with Bob Clearmountain! With luck, a new record sometime this summer. More soon.
Love
Jonatha
